右以彼人為如元公文職任先例有限
御年貢已下大小御公事等可致其
沙汰殊於重基者重代相伝公文職之
仁也而無其過怠被改易条尤不便次第也
且致庄官職者為本家御進退之条先
例也傍例也然者早如元以重基可為
公文職之状所仰如件庄官百姓等宜
承知敢勿違失故下

Letter of appointment to the position of Estate Secretary (kumon ) of Tannowa Estate on a certain day of the tenth month of the first year of Kenchō (1249).

Regarding the set appointment to the position of Estate Secretary of Tannowa Estate, Izumi Province
Of Gyōbunosuke Tachibana Shigemoto
Concerning the aforementioned, this person shall, as before, be appointed to the office of Estate Secretary (kumon). He shall levy taxes ranging from the significant agricultural tax to miscellaneous dues, both large and small in accordance with precedent, and in a diligent manner. Shigemoto is a person who has hereditarily been transmitted the office of Secretary. Nevertheless, as he has not been negligent in any way, it is most improper for him to be dispossessed of this office. There is precedent (senrei) and unwritten custom (bōrei) for the proprietor (honke) having administrative control over estate offices. Nevertheless, concerning Shigemoto, he shall expeditiously be granted the office of estate secretary (kumon) as before. The order is thus. The state administrators and commoners must take note and understand this. Do not be remiss. Wherefore, this order.
